Social Media Development

Today I spent some time going over our social media and developing what I’ve already worked on a bit further.
I’d already set up an Instagram account for Twilleir a few days ago as I felt this is one of the easiest social medias to start on and helps to show a journey through images. Through the use of hashtags too and the ease of being able to upload to other medias at the same time, this felt like the best one to start off with.

I did some research into what hashtags are popular so that I can effectively promote our game to as many as possible.

These above links were tailored more to Instagram and Twitter and what hashtags are popular trends. For more specific hashtags to indie games, I looked at another site which proved useful (see below the long list of hashtags).

These are the most popular hashtags on different days of the week. They include:

  • #MondayBlues
  • #ManicMonday
  • #MondayMotivation or #MotivationMonday
  • #MusicMonday
  • #ManCrushMonday
  • #TransformationTuesday
  • #TravelTuesday
  • #TechTuesday
  • #TipTuesday
  • #TakeMeBackTuesday
  • #TuesdayBoozeday
  • #HumpDay
  • #WomenCrushWednesday
  • #WellnessWednesday
  • #WorkoutWednesday
  • #WisdomWednesday
  • #WineWednesday
  • #WayBackWednesday
  • #ThrowbackThursday or #TBT
  • #ThankfulThursday
  • #ThursdayThoughts
  • #ThirstyThursday
  • #Thursdate
  • #FridayNight
  • #FridayFunday
  • #FashionFriday
  • #FeelGoodFriday
  • #FollowFriday
  • #FridayReads
  • #FlashbackFriday
  • #Caturday
  • #SaturdaySwag
  • #SaturdayShenanigans
  • #ShoutoutSaturday
  • #SundayFunday
  • #SelfieSunday
  • #SinDay

I’ve outlined what tags I would be likely to use and what I won’t through the green and red options above (green meaning Yes and red meaning No). I decided this through thinking about the fan base that we would be catering to. Bearing in mind our target audience is 10+, it wouldn’t be appropriate to post about ‘booze days’ and such. However, I want to create a tone of voice for Twilleir which is fun, hence including hashtags like #SelfieSunday as this could mean that our followers could get to know the developers and give our game a face; another hashtag such as #SaturdaySwag could help tailor to our younger audience.

As well as these personal touches to create a tone of voice for Twilleir, I also had a look into popular hashtags that are used by Indie developers so that we can get relevant followers and get noticed (hopefully!). Below is a list that I compiled that were relevant to us and could help boost the promotion of Twilleir:

  • #indiedev
  • #gamedevelopment
  • #videogames
  • #indiegames
  • #gamedev
  • #indiegamedev
  • #gamesdesign
  • #gamersunite
  • #staytuned
  • #conceptart
  • #screenshotsaturday
  • #gamesdesigner

Now I’ve collated these, I will be trying to use them on our Twitter and Instagram in order to create a buzz for Twilleir and get attention from the right audience which could help us with surveys and prototyping in the future.

Our Twitter is Twilleir, this is where we’ll be documenting alongside Instagram our process to update our audience as well as gather a buzz for Twilleir in time for the shows in June.
I’ve also created a Youtube channel for us where we will be storing things such as Music inspiration, process videos – both rough and finished which we can link to our other social medias to get feedback across different platforms.
